Expert review of the GoPro HERO 10 Black

On 16 September 2021, GoPro introduced the HERO 10. You can recognize it by the bright blue GoPro logo. The HERO 10 has a new generation processor, which allows it to record with high framerates. I'm curious about these images. I'll also look into the improved image stabilization with horizon lock. You'll read my review here.

  • Thanks to the high frame rate in 5K with 60 fps and 4K with 120 fps, you can record smooth footage.
  • The HyperSmooth 4.0 image stabilization ensures stable video footage.
  • The renewed screen on the front has a higher refresh rate, so the footage looks smoother.
  • The action camera doesn't include a memory card.

First impression of the GoPro HERO 10

The blue logo catches my eye on the GoPro HERO 10. The color really stands out. Other than that, not much has changed in terms of the design. This allows me to use the accessories of the HERO 9 for the HERO 10 as well. On the inside, GoPro did make some changes. The processor is renewed and it has HyperSmooth 4.0 image stabilization. I'll test what this means in terms of use.

High framerates thanks to the GP2 processor

5.3K 60 fps

The HERO 10 has a new image processor. Thanks to this, I can record with high framerates. In 5.3K, I record images with 60 fps. The high number of framerates makes my images look very smooth. The 5.3K images are suitable for slow motion videos. The higher the number of fps, the better the slow motion recording. I use 4K with 120 fps, or even 2.7K with 240 fps. My slow motion images look very sharp and smooth.

Tilt 45 degrees with horizon stabilization

Horizon stabilization

When you're skateboarding or mountain biking, you might want to keep the horizon straight. You can do this with the horizon stabilization. I can tilt the GoPro up to 45 degrees. After this, the image will automatically rotate along with the position of the camera. With Horizon Lock, I can lock the horizon. In my opinion, activity moments don't look as spectacular when the horizon stays straight. That's why I recommend you to turn off horizon stabilization when you're recording a skiing trick, for example.

Smooth image on the selfie screen

Selfie screen GoPro HERO 10

Thanks to the relatively high refresh rate of 30 fps, the selfie screen displays smooth images. This is a great improvement compared to the HERO 9, which only had a refresh rate of 5 fps. Due to this, this screen always had some delay. I place the action camera in the right position with this screen, so I'm properly visible. It's also useful to take group selfies during your vacation. You can easily see if everyone is in the picture.

Take a sharp photo out of your video

GoPro Quik app

I can take a photo out of my recorded videos without a problem. Thanks to this, I can easily capture the perfect moment. I record the activity moment and choose which moment of the action comes out best afterwards. I can do this in the GoPro Quick app. I download this app onto my smartphone. In the app, I can also edit my videos easily, add music, and merge different shots.
