First impression of the Garmin Epix Pro
Thanks to the many functions, the Garmin Epix Pro is an incredibly extensive smartwatch. I'm glad that this Epix is now available in 3 sizes. This way, it also fits on smaller wrists like mine. The last Epix Gen 2 model was way too large for me. The Epix Pro has many similarities to the Fenix 7 Pro. Want to read more about what these Garmin smartwatches can do? Screen and design
The bright AMOLED screen is the first thing that stands out when I switch on the Epix Pro. The colors are bright and vibrant and that always looks stylish. I can smoothly scroll through all settings and sports profiles. I can also clearly see the screen on this smallest size. My wrist circumference is 14cm and this 42mm size fits well. I do think it's on the thicker side, because it really sits on my wrist. I had to get used to this.
New functions and outdoor proof
I run 2 to 3 times per week with a Garmin Coach program. With the latest functions endurance score and hill score, I get insight into my endurance and my performance on hills. With this, I can adjust my workouts and improve my performance. I also tested the Epix Pro during Mudmasters, in which we participated with Coolblue. This smartwatch survived the water, sand, and all mud without getting damaged. It did squeak for a few days due to the sand in the hinges of the strap.
Flashlight and red night mode
Another great function is the flashlight. This was already on the Fenix 7X models, but it's also on all Epix Pro sizes now. That's useful while you're camping or if it gets dark outside. I use the flashlight more than I expected, like when I'm looking for something in my storage room. You can choose from white or red light. In addition, this Epix has a night mode. All letters on the screen are red and the screen isn't as brightly lit. That's better for your eyes when you look at your smartwatch in the dark.
Conclusion
The Garmin Epix Pro is a versatile smartwatch that's suitable for all circumstances. The bright AMOLED screen makes it really special to me. The readings and new functions are high-end. With this, I get extra insight into my sports performance and I can improve my results. I like the built-in flashlight more than I previously thought. The only con is the thickness of the watch, but I got used to that fairly quickly.
