Release: Available now
The Meta Quest 3 was released on 10 October 2023. During the announcement on 27 September, we saw all the new possibilities with the new Meta VR headset. In addition to the new mixed reality, games and other options were also announced.
Mixed reality
While the Meta Quest 2 only has virtual reality, Meta introduces mixed reality to the Quest 3. This means that you have virtual and augmented reality in one. With mixed reality, you combine a completely different world with the 'real' world. This allows you to place objects in your living room that only you can see through the headset. For example, watch a sports match on your television. More information about the match will then appear next to your screen. With the Meta Quest 3, you can bring games like Stranger Things to your own living room. You can even open portals to another world on your walls and jump through them.
Image quality
The Quest 3 has an LCD screen with a 4320x2160-pixel resolution, which is the same as 4K+. This is about 30% sharper than the Meta Quest 2. This makes your in-game images even more realistic. Enjoy every detail in one of the Meta games, which makes everything seem lifelike. With the new pancake lenses, you'll be less bothered by motion sickness. This way, you can wander about the virtual world for hours on end.
Design
The front of the Meta Quest 3 is more or less 40% slimmer than that of its predecessor. This makes the weight of the Quest 3 feel better distributed when you use it. The cameras of the headset are now in the middle. On the Quest 2, they were at the bottom of the headset. The Quest 3 is a bit smaller, which makes it easier to store it when you're not playing.
New controllers
In addition, the controllers have a different design compared to the Quest 2 controllers. These controllers don't have a ring and have a more minimalistic design than the Quest 2 controllers. This makes them more similar to the Quest Pro controllers. And just like the Quest Pro, the controllers also have haptic feedback. As a result, you can feel all your in-game actions in your hands.
Processor
The Meta Quest 3 has a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip. This is up to 2 times faster than the chip of the Quest 2. The Snapdragon has an Adreno 750 chipset and a 680MHz GPU speed. This makes your GPU is faster and it won't slow down. The Quest 3 also has a 128-bit memory bus. This transfers data 2 times faster than the Quest 2.
