Get the most out of your electric toothbrush

You make longer and better use of your new electric toothbrush if you use it and maintain it well. In addition, it's good for the health of your teeth. For example, did you know you need to replace the brush attachment every 3 months? Get the most out of your electric toothbrush with the following 6 tips.

Get started with your electric toothbrush

Get started with your electric toothbrush

It's not very time-consuming to maintain your toothbrush. Follow these tips to get the most out of your electric toothbrush.

  1. Replace the brush attachments regularly.
  2. Don't charge your toothbrush too often.
  3. Clean your toothbrush and charging dock regularly.
  4. Transport your toothbrush in a travel pouch.
  5. Connect your toothbrush to your smartphone for feedback on your brushing.

Usage

Brush attachments

Tip 1: replace your brush attachments regularly

After a while, the bristles of your toothbrush's brush attachment lose their firmness. As a result, it's difficult for the bristles to get to hard-to-reach places between your teeth, if they can get there at all. Millions of bacteria also build up on the used brush attachments, which isn't very hygienic. It's important to replace the brush attachment of your electric toothbrush at least once every 3 months.

Charging electric toothbrush

Tip 2: don't charge your toothbrush too often

It seems smart to leave your electric toothbrush in the charging dock so it never runs out of battery. But we don't recommend charging the toothbrush all the time. Always fully charge the toothbrush and don't put it back in the charger until the battery is empty. That way, the battery will last longer. If you find it useful to put the toothbrush in the charging dock after use, this is possible. Simply remove the plug from the socket.

Tip 3: clean your toothbrush regularly

It's important to maintain specific parts of your toothbrush daily. Don't worry, this won't take all day:

  1. Rinse the bristles and handle with water after every use.
  2. Remove the brush attachment from the toothbrush and rinse the steel drive shaft clean.
  3. Dry the drive shaft and handle of the toothbrush.
  4. Put the brush attachment back on the toothbrush and let it dry upright.

Note: make sure the toothbrush is dry when you place it on the charging dock. That way, you prevent bacteria from gathering on the charging dock.

Clean toothbrush

Tip 4: clean your toothbrush and charging dock weekly

The weekly maintenance of your toothbrush doesn't take much time either.

  1. Check the toothbrush for toothpaste residue. Take apart the toothbrush and remove the toothpaste residue with lukewarm water. For the hard-to-reach places, you can use a cloth or cotton swab.
  2. Check the charging dock for possible toothpaste residue and clean the dock with a damp cloth. Never hold your charging dock under running water.

Tip 5: transport your toothbrush in a travel pouch

Toothbrush with travel pouch

When you go on holiday or a weekend trip, you always bring your toothbrush. The best way to transport your toothbrush is in the travel pouch. This protects the toothbrush from fall or impact damage and from bacteria. The same goes for brush attachments. You also take them with you in the travel pouch or use the protective cover that's included with most toothbrushes. Some travel pouches also have a charger function, in addition to just protection and hygiene. Useful, because you don't need to bring a separate charger.

Tip 6: connect your toothbrush to your smartphone

Connect toothbrush to the app

Do you have a smart toothbrush? We recommend you to connect it to your smartphone. This way, you'll get feedback on the way you brush, and you can learn how to brush better.

  1. Download the Oral-B or Sonicare app to your phone via the App Store or Google Play. Which one depends on the brand of your toothbrush.
  2. Turn on Bluetooth on your phone.
  3. Follow the instructions in the app to connect your toothbrush to your smartphone.
  4. To receive brushing feedback, you can open the app and turn on Bluetooth on your phone. Follow the instructions in the app and keep your smartphone near you while you brush your teeth.
