Screen
Watch 6 (Classic): larger screen
The Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 has a 20% larger screen than its predecessors. That's because the black edges around the screen were made thinner. You have a larger screen as a result, but your smartwatch is just as large as the Watch5 and Watch4. Similar to the Watch5, the bright AMOLED screen of the Watch 6 is made of strong sapphire glass. This keeps your watch scratch-free for longer.
Watch5 (Pro): similar to the Watch 6
The screen of the Galaxy Watch5 is similar to the screen of the Watch 6. The screen is just a bit smaller. The screen of the Watch5 is also made of sapphire glass, so it's strong and scratch-resistant. The Watch5 series has an AMOLED screen. It's very bright and similar to a smartphone screen.
Watch4 (Classic): less sharp and smooth
Samsung Galaxy Watch4 smartwatches have the smallest screen with the thickest bezels. The glass is gorilla glass, which is less strong than sapphire glass. So you have a greater risk of scratches. Just like with the Watch 6 and 5, the screen is a bright AMOLED screen.
Design
Watch 6 (Classic): the rotating bezel is back
The standard Samsung Galaxy Watch 6, Watch5, and Watch4 models are similar in design. The sizes are the same, namely 40 and 44mm. The Watch 6 Classic looks very similar to the Watch4 Classic. The rotating ring (bezel) around the screen is back with this model. This was absent on the Watch5 Pro. The Watch 6 Classic is also available in 2 sizes now, namely 43 and 47mm.
Watch5 (Pro): heavy smartwatch
The standard Samsung Galaxy Watch5 is a bit heavier than the Samsung Watch4 and a bit lighter than the Watch 6. The Samsung Watch5 Pro has a more rugged and robust appearance than the Classic models. This smartwatch is intended for sports enthusiasts, so it looks more sporty. There's no rotating bezel around the screen. The Watch5 Pro is available in 1 size, 46mm.
Watch4 (Classic): similar to the Watch 6
The Watch4 and Watch4 Classic are the most similar to the Watch 6 and 6 Classic in appearance. With the rotating bezel around the screen on the Classic, you can easily scroll through your apps and messages. This bezel is a lot wider on the 4 Classic than on the 6 Classic, so you have a smaller screen. The Watch4 Classic is available in a slightly smaller size than the 6 Classic, namely 42 and 46mm.
Functions and performance
Watch 6 (Classic): fast and smooth
The Samsung Watch 6 series has a new, faster chip. With this, these smartwatches are faster and work more smoothly than their predecessors. You can smoothly scroll through your messages and quickly switch between apps. The Watch 6 has comparable functions to its predecessors. Samsung improved sleep reading and expanded it with a sleep coach. With this, you get tips and you can improve your sleep quality.
Watch5 (Pro): similar to the Watch 6
In performance, the Galaxy Watch5 series is similar to the Watch 6 series. The Watch5 was the first Samsung smartwatch with a skin temperature sensor. With this, you can read your menstrual cycle and monitor your pregnancy. You can also find this on the Watch 6, but not on the Watch4. In addition, you can read your blood pressure with all of these Samsung watches.
Watch4 (Classic): basic functions
The Samsung Watch4 is the first Samsung watch that runs on the Google Wear OS operating system. You can install apps on your watch via the Google Play Store as a result, just like on your smartphone. The Watch4 has similar functions to its successors, but of less good quality. For example, it doesn't read your sleeping phases, stress level, and sports performance as well.
Battery life
Watch 6 (Classic): 1 to 2 days
Samsung smartwatches don't have a long battery life, but every generation generally gets a bit better. Samsung also placed a slightly larger battery in the Watch 6 series. With average use, your smartwatch lasts about 1 to 2 days. Thanks to fast charging, you can fully charge it in 45 minutes.
Watch5 (Pro): 1 to 3 days
The battery life of the Watch5 is a bit less long that that of the Watch 6, but it is longer than that of the Watch4. With average use, you have to charge it every 1 to 2 days. You can also do this with fast charging, it's 80% full in 45 minutes. You get the longest battery life out of all of these watches with the Watch5 Pro, namely 2 to 3 days.
Watch4 (Classic): about 1 day
The battery of the Watch4 smartwatches is the least of all Samsung smartwatches, because you have to charge it daily. The 4 Classic lasts a bit longer, but also not much longer than 1 day. Fast charging isn't available for these smartwatches, so it takes a while to fully charge it.
Conclusion
The Samsung Watch 6 has mainly improved in appearance and speed compared to its predecessors, the Watch5 and Watch4. A larger screen, faster processor, and slightly longer battery life are the main differences. If you want a rotating bezel around your screen, the Watch 6 Classic is for you.
