Design
Samsung S10 (Plus): camera hole and ceramic casing
With the Samsung Galaxy S10 (Plus), Samsung launches an innovative design for the first time since the S8. The selfie camera is now integrated in the screen. In the upper right corner of the screen, there is a hole with a single camera (S10) or double camera (S10 Plus) behind it. This makes the screen virtually bezel-less. In addition to the glass devices, Samsung will launch a special, ceramic edition of the S10 Plus. The ceramic back is stronger and scratches less easily than glass.
Samsung S9 (Plus): more of the same
The S10 has a new design, but the S9 (Plus) was mainly about perfecting the hardware. The S9 is very similar to the S8, only a bit slimmer and with even thinner bezels. The S9 was available in black, blue, purple, and gold to get, but Samsung chose different colors for the S10. Black, of course, but also green and white. All versions of the S9 are made of glass; there is no special version like the ceramic S10 Plus.
Camera
Samsung S10 (Plus): 16, 12, and 12 megapixel, ultra wide-angle lens
The S10 and S10 Plus have the exact same triple camera on the back. The ultra wide angle lens is another feature the S9 (Plus) didn't have. What if you're on vacation and can't get that impressive church or large group of friends in the frame? Use the ultra wide angle lens to get a larger area in your photo. The double selfie camera is unique to the S10 Plus. It also gives your selfies a nice depth of field effect.
Samsung S9 (Plus): 12 megapixel, variable aperture
While the S9 Plus had 2 cameras on the back, the S9 had to make do with a single camera. Samsung introduced variable aperture on these devices. This aperture automatically adjusts to the ambient light, so you can take sharp photos in bright and in low light. The S9 Plus also has a telephoto lens. That lens lets you zoom without losing quality.
Screen
Samsung S10 (Plus): 6.1 inches/6.4 inches with fingerprint scanner
A new feature of the S10 is the fingerprint scanner in the screen. We've seen that concept before, but previous scanners worked with light (optic). This scanner works with sound waves (ultrasonic). This process is faster and works better in low light and with dirty fingers. The S10 is also the first Samsung smartphone to have a Dynamic AMOLED screen and support HDR 10+. This gives you a clearer picture and the colors look even better than on other smartphones.
Samsung S9 (Plus): 5.8 inches/6.2 inches Quad HD+ screen
In terms of resolution, the screens of the S9 and S9 Plus don't differ much from the screens on the S10 and S10 Plus. All these phones have a screen with Quad HD+ resolution; games and movies are very sharp that way. The S9 perfected the design of its predecessor, the S8, with thin edges on the top and bottom. Although these edges are somewhat thicker than on the S10, the screen doesn't have a camera hole.
Storage
Samsung S10 (Plus): 128GB, 512GB, or 1TB
The amount of storage space is a big difference between the S10 and the S9. The S10 has 128GB by default; twice as much as the standard version of the S9. In addition, Samsung also offers a version with 512GB. The S10 Plus tops that: it's the first smartphone ever with 1 terabyte of memory. You can download games and apps, watch series, take photos, and record 4K videos to your heart's content.
Samsung S9 (Plus): 64GB
The Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus both had 64GB of storage space. That's not a lot if you use your phone often. Most models now have 128GB by default. Later versions of the S9 had more memory: 128GB and 256GB. Samsung always saved the big guns (512GB) for the Note series.
Battery and charging
Samsung S10 (Plus): reverse wireless charging
The battery of the Galaxy S10/S10 Plus is bigger than the S9/S9 Plus. The smartphones need that, due to the larger screens. Thanks to the new processor, the devices are more energy-efficient and the battery easily lasts all day. The S10 series also support reverse wireless charging. That means you can use your phone to charge other devices wirelessly. Think of the new Galaxy Buds (wireless earbuds), or the Galaxy Watch.
Samsung S9 (Plus): enough to get through the day
The Galaxy S9 has a battery of 3,000mAh and the Galaxy S9 Plus has one of 3500mAh. r a top device that is enough to get through the day. With the included Samsung Adaptive Fast Charger, your phone will be charged in about 2 hours. The S9 (Plus) also supports wireless charging, but doesn't support reverse wireless charging.
