Refresh rate
C1: 100Hz
The LG C1 has a refresh rate of 100Hz. This means the screen refreshes a 100 times per second, so it displays 100 frames per second. Thanks to this, fast-moving images look smooth. Especially for enthusiastic sports fans, this refresh rate is a great advantage. During an intense soccer game, the ball doesn't look like a white blur on the field, but stays sharp with every goal.
A1: 50Hz
The A1 has a refresh rate of 50Hz. So the screen of this TV refreshes 50 times per second. This means fast-moving images are displayed less smoothly than with the C1. For example, when a car flies through the corner during the Formula 1 race. Are you a fanatic sports watcher? The LG C1 is a more suitable choice for you, so you can track the ball accurately across the field during a soccer game. Do you mostly watch live TV and a movie or series once in a while? You probably barely notice the difference in refresh rate.
HDMI version
C1: 4 HDMI 2.1 inputs
The LG C1 has 4 HDMI 2.1 inputs. This makes the TV especially suitable for gamers with a new console. HDMI 2.1 sends images with a 4K resolution and 100Hz refresh rate from your console to your television. In addition, it supports VRR, which is a useful technique to keep the refresh rate of your TV the same as of your console. Thanks to the combination of these functions, all games are displayed sharply and smoothly and you'll never experience hiccups.
A1: 3 HDMI 2.0 inputs
The LG A1 has 3 HDMI version 2.0 inputs. This version supports transferring high-quality HDR images, from a Blu-ray player, for example. Your TV can also receive 4K images with this HDMI version, but only with a refresh rate of 50Hz. Do you have a new console, like the PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X? You can't use all the functions of these consoles with the A1, like VRR support and 4K images with a 100Hz refresh rate.
Design
C1: wide steel stand, white back
The design of the C1 is very similar to the design of its predecessors, the CX and C9. The screen stands on a luxurious steel stand. This stand is relatively low, so keep this in mind when you want to place a soundbar in front of the TV. It might block part of the screen. The OLED screen is only a few millimeters thick. Behind the thin screen, there's a plastic casing with all the connectors. A unique property is that both the back of the screen and the casing are white.
A1: 2 small leg stands
The LG A1 has a slightly less luxurious appearance than the C1. The screen and casing are pretty much the same, except for the black color. The screen of the A1 is also especially thin, because an OLED screen only has a few layers. Instead of a wide stand, the A1 has 2 smaller leg stands more towards the sides of the screen. There are pretty far apart, so the large sizes of this TV can't fit onto the smaller TV stands.
Conclusion
The LG C1 has many advantages over the A1. For example, you can watch smoother images and get more out of your new console thanks to the 100Hz refresh rate and the HDMI 2.1 ports. In addition, the TV looks more luxurious. The C1 is very suitable for gamers and sports fans, the A1 is sufficient when you prefer watching live television and a movie or series once in a while. With both televisions, you can enjoy images with a powerful contrast and deep black levels thanks to the OLED screen.
