How do you clean the soleplate?
Where do the stains on the soleplate come from?
When you iron synthetic fabrics and prints too hot, small particles melt onto your iron. If you iron too hot often, this can stain the soleplate. Hard water with a lot of calcium or the use of starch can cause stains on the soleplate of your iron. It's important that you clean the soleplate often. This way, you prevent stains on your favorite clothing.
This is what you need
You don't need chemical agents when you clean the soleplate. In fact, these can even damage the soleplate. Grab the following items:
- Vinegar
- Kitchen towel
- Microfiber cloth
- A container that fits the iron, like a washing-up bowl
The cleaning takes 10 minutes and the soaking 30 minutes.
Steps
Step 1 | Cover the bottom of the container or washing-up bowl with a kitchen towel. Pour the vinegar on the towel until the towel is damp. |

Step 2 | Place your (steam) iron on the cloth and leave it there for half an hour, in order to expose the stains to the vinegar. |
Step 3 | Remove the stains from the soleplate with a damp microfiber cloth. |
Note
Are the stains persistent? Use a soft wet sponge in order to scrub the iron soleplate. Make sure not to use the rough side of the sponge. It can damage the iron soleplate. You can't remove any scratches that might result afterwards. Did you go through all of the steps, but does your iron soleplate still show stains? Repeat the steps.
