How do you choose a juicer?
Choose juicer
The most important questions you should ask yourself when choosing a juicer are:
- Which vegetables and fruits do you want to juice?
- How intensively do you want to use the juicer?
- Which extras do you find important?
Which kinds of vegetables and fruits do you want to juice?
There are different types of vegetables and fruits that you can juice. You'd use a different speed for hard vegetables and fruits like carrots and apples than you would for soft vegetables and fruits like tomatoes or oranges. For leaf vegetables like wheat grass and spinach, a slowjuicer is much more suitable. We'll explain the differences between a juicer and slowjuicer
Juice maker vs slowjuicer
Juicer
A juicer grates vegetables and fruits by spinning at a high speed, also called spinning. The container collects the pulp and the juice comes out another outlet. As a result, you'll quickly have a fresh juice. A juicer is mostly suitable for fruits and vegetables with a lot of moisture in them. This will provide a lot of clear juice. You can't keep juice from a juicer as long, so it's best to drink it right away
Slow juicer
Do you think it's important to get as many vitamins as possible and would you like to make wheat grass juice, too? Choose a slowjuicer. A slowjuicer functions differently than a juicer. It juices fruit and vegetables by slowly and gently squashing them. Because a slowjuicer presses cold, a large amount of the vitamines, enzymes, and minerals from your fruit and vegetables are retained. Apart from hard and soft fruit and vegetables, a slowjuicer is also suitable for squeezing wheat juice, unlike a juicer.
How intensively do you want to use the juicer?
Power
The power of a juicer is expressed in Watts. Generally speaking, the higher the power, the easier and faster vegetables and fruits can be juiced. If you occasionally prepare a small amount of juice, you won't need a juicer with high power. But if you like to prepare large mounts of juice with many hard vegetables and fruits, a higher power is more suitable This isn't the case for slowjuicers. Because it juices in a different way, a slowjuicer can get more juice out of vegetables and fruits with less power.
Juice pitcher
Juicers and slowjuicers don't always include a pitcher by default, and they have different capacities too. For one or just a couple of glasses of juice, a pitcher isn't necessary. You can just put the glass under the outlet. For larger amounts of juice in one go, a pitcher is useful. The only choice you'll still need to make is the capacity of the pitcher. If you won't make more juice than 3 to 4 glasses in one go, a pitcher between 0 and 1L is fine. If you want to prepare more than 4 glasses at a time, a pitcher between 1.1 and 1.5L is better.
What else do you keep in mind?
There are a couple of more things to keep in mind when choosing a juicer. The material of the machine differs per model. An aluminum or stainless steel juicer stands more firmly than a plastic model. Some juicers also have a foam separator. This will separate the foam from the juice, so you won't end up with a layer of foam. Another useful extra is the drip stop. This makes sure the juice doesn't drip on your counter when there's nothing underneath the outlet anymore.
