How much water do you want to boil?
Do you have a large household? You'll be fine with a kettle with a capacity between 1.6 and 2L. When you're just with 2, a kettle with a capacity between 1 and 1.5L will be sufficient. Are you looking for a kettle for on the campsite or that's easy to take traveling? There are smaller kettles too, with a capacity between 0.5 and 1L.
Which casing suits you?
Plastic
A plastic casing is lightweight. The plastic casing doesn't get as hot as a metal or glass kettle. The only disadvantage is that a plastic kettle is less durable than a metal kettle. Due to this, it won't last as long.
Glass
A glass kettle is transparent. This allows you to easily see how much water is in there. You can also see when the water starts to boil. Does the glass kettle have built-in lighting? It'll give a nice effect during boiling. Chances are that the exterior of the glass becomes very hot during boiling. In addition, limescale is visible sooner with a glass kettle.
Metal
A stainless steel kettle has multiple advantages. A metal kettle is the most durable and has a modern look. In addition, you can easily clean the stainless steel casing when it's dirty.
What is the maximum noise level?
Do you value your cup of tea in the morning? It's useful to check the noise level of your future kettle. We measure the noise level of every kettle. We've documented the maximum noise of each kettle. Keep in mind that the kettle won't produce this noise for longer than a minute. Thanks to this, the noise will never bother you for too long.
Do you want to be able to use extra functions?
Keep Warm function
With a keep-warm function, the kettle keeps the water at the right temperature for longer. This is useful when you like to drink multiple cups of tea one after the other. It allows you to pour yourself another cup of tea without having to boil the water every time. The keep-warm function works for about 30 to 40 minutes.
Double-walled casing
The exterior of a kettle with a double-walled casing may stay cool, but this isn't always the case. Keep this in mind. The boiled water does stay hot for longer in a double-walled kettle. This is useful, because it allows you to put the kettle on the breakfast table to drink multiple cups of tea one after another.
Boil-dry protection
To prevent dangerous situations, it's important the kettle has boil-dry protection. This allows you to prevent the kettle from continuing to boil even though there's no water left inside. Nowadays, most people have a kettle with boil-dry protection.
Adjustable temperature
You use a kettle with adjustable temperature for brewing different teas. For example, the water temperature required for brewing green tea is between 70 and 88 degrees. For white tea, you use water between 80 and 95 degrees. The number of temperature settings you can choose from differs per kettle. With some kettles, this starts at a temperature of 40 degrees and with others, this starts at 70.
Do you just want to make tea?
Are you a true tea lover? A tea maker is great for you. This is a kettle and tea maker in one, which allows you to prepare tea directly in the kettle with a special tea filter. You can put both tea leaves or a tea bag into the tea filter. The filter is attached to the lid of the kettle that you can move up and down. That way, you can easily put the tea into the water and remove it once it's ready. Tea makers have a glass casing, so you can easily see if your tea has the right strength already.
