How do you choose the best running earbuds?
Choose jogging earbuds
To choose the right wireless earbuds for jogging, keep a few things in mind. We're happy to help you make it easier to choose. Ask yourself the following questions:
- Do you want Bluetooth earbuds?
- Do you want to hear ambient sounds?
- How water-resistant do the earbuds have to be?
- How do you want to fix the earbuds in place?
Do you want wireless earbuds?
For jogging, we prefer wireless earbuds over wired earbuds. With wireless earbuds, you can move freely without a wire in the way. This way, wireless earbuds fall out of your ear less easily than wired earbuds.
Do you want to hear ambient sounds?
Unlike earbuds for at the office, it's not smart to use noise cancelling when you jog. That's why we recommend earbuds that allow ambient sounds to come through. This allows you to hear the traffic around you. Earbuds with bone conduction are a nice example of this. These earbuds keep your ears open, so you still hear the traffic.
How water-resistant do the earbuds have to be?
It's important that jogging earbuds can handle sweat and rain. Choose earbuds with at least an IPX 5 certification. The IPX certification of the product indicates how waterproof a product is. With an IPX value of 5 or higher, the earbuds are at least water-resistant and they can handle sweat and rain. If earbuds have an IPX value of 7 or higher, the earbuds are waterproof.
How do you want to fix the earbuds in place?
You don't want it to seem like your earbuds fall out when you jog. That's why you can choose earbuds with an ear hook or bone conduction. Earbuds with an ear hook are firmly clamped to your ear, so they don't easily fall out. Some earbuds with an ear hook have a hook to clamp it behind your ear. Earbuds with bone conduction have a wire in the neck. This way, the earbuds don't easily fall out.
