Which laptop do you need to play VR games?
Choose laptop for VR games
Not every laptop is suitable for playing VR games. When a laptop meets at least the following requirements, you can be sure that it's suitable for VR.
- The laptop has at least a GTX 1060 video card
- The laptop has at least an Intel Core i7 processor
- The laptop has a a USB, HDMI or Display Port input
Why is a good video card in a laptop important?
VR images have to be as smooth as possible, so you can enjoy games and 350-degree videos without slowing down. Most VR games play at 90 fps. Below 90 fps, images stutter and they're less smooth, so you'll get motion sickness. That's why it's important that you have the right video card that can transfer images to your VR headset without delay.
What video card do I need?
You can play VR games with an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 video card and higher. That means you don't need the latest video card. These video cards have Simultaneous Multi-Projection, which is a technology that makes sure it displays details sharply. This way, you also won't get motion sickness as easily. You can play VR games with a 1060 video card, but newer video cards have better specifications.
What else should you keep in mind?
In addition to a good video card, you also have to keep other specifications in mind. Think of an Intel Core i7 or AMD Ryzen 7 processor and the connectors on your laptop. For the HTC Vive VR headset, you need an extra DisplayPort and a USB-C connector for the Meta Quest 2. In addition, you need at least 8GB RAM for every VR headset.
