How do you choose your first WiFi speaker?
Choose one brand and stick with it
Speakers from the same brand often work together well. Most WiFi speaker brands have their own app and operating system. That means you can pair multiple speakers to each other wirelessly and they work seamlessly together. Built-in voice assistants often work well together as well.
Combine brands via a smart home platform
If you still want to combine speakers of different brands with each other in one household, a smart home platform is the solution. At the moment, there are several platforms. The most well-known ones are Google Home and Apple HomeKit. You can add multiple devices to your home via these apps, including smart speakers. You can add your speaker to a Google routine. Simply say 'Good morning, Google' to have your lights switch on and to play your morning playlist.
Which streaming service do you want to use?
If you're used to a streaming service, it's nice if your new speaker supports this. So if you have a Spotify account, choose a speaker with Spotify connect. If you use Apple products, a speaker with Airplay is the best choice for you.
Do you want to control the speaker via voice commands?
We've already mentioned a speaker with a smart home platform, such as Google Assistant. If you also want to control the speaker via voice commands, choose a speaker with a built-in microphone. That way, you can add the speaker to your smart home and you can also use it as a hub to control other devices.
Combine speakers
If one speaker doesn't meet your wishes, you can expand to a stereo pair or even a complete sound system. With a stereo pair, the sound comes from the left and right. And with a surround setup, you're even completely surrounded by the sound. This provides a lifelike effect when you're watching a movie or series. Do you enjoy a deep bass? Add a subwoofer.
