Expert review of the Razer Naga Trinity

With the Razer Trinity, Razer presents a mouse that's got to be suitable for different types of games. But how well does the system work? And is it as convenient as it seems? In this expert review, I'll test the Trinity gaming mouse.

Razer Trinity

With 3 different button combinations | 200 - 16,000DPI | 5G optical sensor
98,-
no longer available
  • Quick-to-replace side panels for 3 different types of games, shooters, MOBAs, and MMOs.
  • Mechanical switches, both in the mouse buttons and in the side panels, nice response time an clicks.
  • Excellent PixArt sensor that functions properly for fast shooters too.
  • Relatively heavy for a shooter mouse (120g).
  • Make sure to think about how often you play different types of games.

In the box

Razer Naga Trinity with all components

The Naga Trinity is packed tightly as usual. The mouse already has one panel attached, and the other 2 are included neatly packed. Razer welcomes us to the Cult of Razer with a nice marketing package and 2 Chroma stickers that will probably be applied to the PC of my nephew.

  • Razer Naga Trinity Mouse

  • Trinity side panels (3x):

    • 2 buttons,
    • 7 buttons,
    • 12 buttons
  • Manual

Magnets

Magnetic attachment

The first thing I'd like to discuss is how it works. Well, I can simply remove the side panel when I use a little bit of power. It's very easy to attach the new panel, because it snaps right into place thanks to the magnets. When I move my mouse around, nothing goes out of place and the side panel doesn't come off.

Shape

Curves of the mouse

As the name suggests, the Naga Trinity has the same shape as other models from the Naga series. A pleasant, safe shape that I'm used to with my regular Naga. The mouse feels comfortable in my hand for my claw and fingertip grip playstyle. It een feels nice with a palm grip. The rubber handle provides enough grip for fast motions, and the buttons offer enough resistance for me not to accidentally press them.

Side panels

Side panel with 2 buttons

Shooter panel: 2 buttons

With the shooter panel, I have 2 thumb buttons and an extra rubber handle for grip with fast motions. The thumb buttons have enough resistance and a nice click, which I use for melee or throwing grenades in a game like Battlefield. Besides for gaming, they're also useful for navigating through menus and internet pages. I notice that the 120g mouse plays very differently than my regular shooter mouse of about 80g.

Side panel with 7 buttons

MOBA panel: 7 buttons

I haven't tried the Naga Hex design before. There are 7 buttons that are placed around a rubber grip. Via the Razer software, I can create a profile for the panels with more buttons. This allows me to easily assign functions to buttons. The 7 buttons are useful in Heroes of the Storm and League of Legends, because they allow me to control all skills with 1 hand. And I even have buttons left for items or extra skills. This is great.

MMO panel: 12 buttons

MMO panel: 12 buttons

You might think 12 buttons is a lot, but I can tell you that you might even want more as an MMO player. Especially as a Druid player in World of Warcraft, you often have more skills than you could wish for. Luckily, WoW has limited this amount with Battle for Azeroth and 12 buttons is enough. Again, the buttons have a nice click and I hardly press them accidentally.

Sensor

Naga Sensor

No matter if the rest of the mouse works well, a good sensor determines whether it's a good gaming mouse or not. Razer uses a PixArt optical sensor for this model, which most mouses of competitive players have had for years. I notice there's no delay at all, no precision problems, and no noise in the tracking of the sensor. The mouse skates glide properly and the Lift Off Distance is low at 1DVD, which is2-3mm high. This is exactly how I like it.

Conclusion

The Naga Trinity is great, with a useful system, good sensor, and Chroma lighting. You'll probably have to make some changes in the Razer software to set everything up properly, but it's a great gaming mouse for gamers who like to play different types of games once this is done. The only side note is its relatively heavy weight and the fact that palm grip is only possible with people with average or small hands.
