Expert review of the LG NANO916

The NanoCell screen ensures a rich color representation. A layer of tiny particles filters unnecessary light waves. Thanks to this, the TV displays the colors very accurately. When I watch the colorful HDR images, I can really see that the green of the forest looks really bright. Between the bright green colors, I can also see subtle differences in green tones. This makes the images look very realistic.

The NANO91 has backlight with Full Array Local Dimming. This means the entire screen has a layer of tiny LED lights. These lights light up or dim individually when necessary. As a result, darker parts of the screen are darker and lighter parts are lighter. When I watch images of a dark storm, I can see a strong contrast. The shadows of a rain cloud look darker, while the sunlight at the horizon is displayed very brightly.

The NANO916 has an IPS screen. These screen provide a wider viewing angle than a normal VA panel. When I sit in front of the TV at an angle, I notice the colors and contrast of the screen hardly change. This is especially useful when you watch television with multiple people. A disadvantage of an IPS screen is that the contrast is often less strong. But the TV compensates for this with the Full Array Local Dimming.

The screen of the NANO916 stands on a sturdy stand with the shape of a half moon. This stand has the same color as the bezel of the screen, which is matte dark gray. This bezel is pretty thin and doesn't distract when you watch TV. The materials of the TV don't look very luxurious, but I notice the TV stands very firmly on the stand.

Thanks to the 2 speakers and 2 subwoofers, the NANO916 has good sound with rich bass tones. When I turn up the volume, the sound barely distorts. When I listen to music, I can hear strong bass tones and the voices are clear. But when I watch an exciting scene from an action movie, I miss some power, especially in the deeper bass tones. The new smart platform WebOS 6.0 is a screen-filling menu that provides a useful overview of all the functions of the TV. I see a row with streaming app services right away, like Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, and Netflix. Above this row, I see a row with personalized recommendations for movies and series from this app. I also find the connected appliances here. Not using one of the inputs of the TV? It won't show in the menu. This keeps it very well-organized.

The well-known Magic Remote by LG looks slightly more luxurious and cleaner than previous models. The remote is very easy to use. When I point at the screen with the Magic Remote, the cursor appears and I can easily go through all the menus. The remote also has an NFC chip. When I put my smartphone on the Remote, I connect it to the television. That way, I can stream my favorite movies and series from my phone in no time.
