Expert review of the LG OLED A2

The LG OLED A2 is the starter model of LG OLED series of 2022. This OLED television displays realistic images with deep black levels and vibrant colors. I visited LG to test this TV. In this review, you can read everything on my findings and I'll explain the most important properties of the TV.

  • Thanks to the OLED screen, you can view realistic images with deep black levels.

  • The processor offers an extra detailed and colorful image and allows you to smoothly navigate through the menu.

  • The webOS smart platform provides a clear menu with a wide selection of apps.

  • Due to the 50Hz refresh rate, fast-moving images aren't always displayed smoothly.

  • You can't listen to a deep bass with this TV during action movies for example, because it doesn't have a subwoofer.

First impression of the A2

First impression of the LG A2

I notice that the LG OLED A2 is hanging on the wall right away. The TV comes with 2 modern-looking leg stands. The A2 has a modern design with a thin bezel. Thanks to this, you'll primarily look at the image instead of the bezel.

Colorful images

Colorful images LG A2

The LG OLED A2 displays colorful and bright images thanks to the a7 Gen5 processor and the 10-bit color panel. I directly notice this when I watch some content about nature. The colors of the sea, the beach, and the jungle pop on the screen. In the jungle, I can distinguish many different tones of green thanks to the wide color gamut of the TV. The moving images from above the beach aren't always displayed smoothly due to the refresh rate of 50Hz. For a smooth viewing experience, I recommend a television with a refresh rate of 100Hz, like with the LG OLED B2 TV.

A strong contrast

A strong contrast LG OLED A2

The LG OLED A2 displays a strong contrast thanks to the OLED screen. The screen of the A2 consists of millions of pixels that light up and dim individually. I directly notice this when I watch images of a tropical island. The shadows of the mountains are dark, while the azure-blue sea and the clear sky really pop on the screen. Thanks to the strong contrast, the scene looks very lively.

Large viewing angle

Viewing angle LG A2

The LG OLED A2 has a good viewing angle thanks to the OLED screen. OLED screens are known for their impressive viewing angle. When I watch TV at an angle, I'm barely bothered by reflections. This is nice if you're watching TV with a large group of people.

Standard sound

LG OLED A2 sound

I test the sound of the LG OLED A2 by listen to a classic concert. The TV has a power of 20W and misses a built-in subwoofer. This makes the sound suitable for standard television shows like talkshows. For an immersive listening experience, you should purchase an external soundbar with subwoofer.

Screen-filling and organized smart menu

Smart menu LG A2

The smart menu of the LG OLED A2 is very user-friendly. Thanks to the screen-filling menu, I see all my favorite apps in a clear overview on the screen. You can easily create multiple profiles in the smart menu. That way, you'll only watch your own content when you share the TV with multiple people.

Convenient remote

Magic Remote LG A2

The LG A2 includes a useful remote, called the LG Magic Remote. With this remote, you can control the TV by pointing at the screen. This allows me to quickly navigate through the menu. Aside from the user-friendliness, the remote also feels comfortable in my hand.

Conclusion

4K (UHD) | Smart TV: webOS | 50Hz

The A2 is an OLED television that meets all the requirements of a good OLED TV. Thanks to the OLED screen, the TV displays colorful images with a strong contrast. The viewing angle of the TV is very good. The refresh rate of 50Hz offers less smooth images than the LG B2, for example. The A2 is a suitable choice for people who are looking for an OLED TV with a good color representation and a strong contrast, but who don't value smooth images as much. The Magic Remote is a real addition in terms of user-friendliness too.
